I am immensely proud of the campaign we have run.  I want to thank our dozens of dedicated volunteers who worked long hours and also thanks to those who contributed and voted for me.  We met many decent hard working people throughout this adventure.  I learned a great deal about the triumphs and challenges in House District 50. In all of our campaign material, I am proud to say we always told the truth.

I have to admit I was not prepared for the distasteful negative campaign against me.  If I had it to do all over again, I would still do the same, because I believe very strongly honest people deserve honest representation.

I will continue to work in my community to help those who are least able to help themselves. For example, people on social security who simply can’t afford the additional fees for Envirotest fees and faster fees.  I will continue to work for better education for our children.

Because we love my country, Ida and I will continue to give out free constitutions. (over 4,800 given out)  I will remain a voice for the people of House District 50, please don’t hesitate to call me at 970-339-4515.

Dear House District 50 Voter –
My name is Ida Carlson. I’m writing to tell you about my husband of 20 years, Skip Carlson, the Republican candidate for the Colorado House of Representatives from House District 50.

With all of the nasty political ads swirling around us, I thought I would take the time to reach out directly to cut through all the clutter. I am not much of a political person and this is my first real campaign. I guess I wasn’t prepared for how nasty some people can get to make sure their candidate wins.

There have been some very unkind and untrue things said about my husband and I want to set the record straight – not just to correct the falsehoods spread about Skip, but to mention a few things about my husband you might not know.

Skip Carlson is a Weld County farm boy at heart. He grew up growing corn, fixing fences and showing cattle in 4-H.  Skip is a successful businessman, having run a thriving Farmer’s Insurance Agency for thirteen years. He understands better than most the sacrifices it takes to reinvest your profits, avoid debt and take good care of your employees.

But it’s not Skip’s occupation that makes him ready for office. It’s his work in the greater Greeley community – work he does out of his heart for no money – that truly qualifies him to represent us in Denver.  Since 1992 Skip has volunteered his time as the Greeter on 14th Avenue at the Greeley Independence Stampede.  He actually went out and bought a golf cart so he could give people rides to the arena or back to their car.  The elderly and others that walk with crutches are sure appreciative of his hospitality.

Since 2004, Skip has served as vice president of Zac’s Legacy Foundation, a charitable organization that provides much-needed financial assistance to families who are caring for a child with cancer.   With Skip’s help, this small non-profit has raised over a million dollars to provide some relief to people who need it most.

Providing a top quality education for our students is high on Skip’s agenda.  Our grandson was enrolled at one of Greeley/Evans public schools.  He was not learning and it just wasn’t the best for him.  Today, however, he is in his fourth year at a charter school and doing amazingly well.  Our granddaughters are already on the charter school waiting list when they start kindergarten. Educational excellence, parent choice and rewarding great teachers are Skip’s priorities with respect to education. Skip even gives cash rewards to the children of his clients that excel in school.

I may be a first time campaigner, but I do know this: Skip Carlson is a man of great warmth, uncommon integrity and high principle. I believe in my soul he will work every day to fight for the Weld County values we all share – greater economic opportunity, a world class education for all of our students, and more jobs for our hard-working citizens.

When I first met Skip he told me to take a deep seat and hang onto the rope, because I was in for the ride of my life.  Wow!  He sure was right.  Twenty years later I am still amazed at his capacity for generosity and compassion.

Thank you very much for taking the time to read this letter about my husband. Take it from me – if Skip is elected he will serve us every day with tenacity, dignity and the stout heart of a Weld County farm boy!

Carlson: “We have to work with job creators, not against them”

GREELEY, Colo.—Skip Carlson, a Greeley Republican running for election in Colorado’s House District 50.  He met with voters in Weld County today to talk about how he plans to accelerate Colorado’s economic recovery.

“I understand what it means to balance a budget,” Carlson said. “Most voters agree with me when I say that, just like every other family in Colorado, government must live within its means—especially in tough economic times.”

Carlson is running against Democrat incumbent Dave Young. Young openly supports a preference bill that would raise the costs of doing business within Colorado and would discourage companies from investing and creating jobs within the state.

“I believe more regulations and more taxes won’t accelerate our economic recovery,” Carlson added. “We have to work with job creators, not against them, if we want to create new economic opportunity for Colorado’s families and business owners across the state.”

The preference bill Young supports was introduced last legislative session but was met with opposition by many of Colorado’s leading business advocacy groups, including the Colorado Association of Commerce and Industry, the Colorado Competitive Council, the Denver Metro Chamber and Colorado Concern.

Campaign Phone Calls Thursday’s

Please join us for Phone Calls Thursday’s. Please join us from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Victory Office, 809 9th Street in downtown Greeley.  We will be making phone calls and having a great time.

Last Thursday we had all fourteen phones busy and played some games as an extra spin.  We finished the evening off at Fonta’s for a little pizza.  It was a fun time for all who was there.   Come on down and check out what we will be doing this Thursday!

Skip Carlson invites you to his kickoff for the second half of his campaign.  We will meet tonight July 5 at 7:00 PM.  Come to the Destiny Christian Center at 6250 W 10th street in Greeley, Colorado.  Skip will discuss the plans and strategies for the next four months.

Cinco de Mayo

Since we announced our campaign for House District 50 we have been busy.
I want to thank the Latino Chamber of Commerce for organizing the Cinco de Mayo parade on May 5th.    It was wonderful to share my message as my supporters handed out flyers along the route.   The reception was great at the parade and again at the Republican booth.  A number of people signed up as new volunteers for my campaign.  It was a warm welcome from all who attended.
I took time out to visit with many small businesses.  I was pleased with a significant majority who embraced our message.

We have had the opportunity to visit with numerous volunteers, many of whom have not helped with any campaign before. It is always fun to see the excitement in the people when they first become involved.  If you would like to help support my campaign, please contact me (970) 396-7215.

Party a great success!

Huge success, over 150 Republicans, friends and family came.  Everyone enjoyed 30lbs. of bacon, several gallons of grits, and other snacks.  Skip said,”Everyone seemed to have fun; I want to thank all who attended.”  We had an excellent start in fund raising.  This is a remarkable start of a long campaign.  I ask for your funding support.  But more importantly your prayers, thoughts and assistance.  

Special thanks go to Randy’s All American Grill for serving the food and drinks.  His staff did a wonderful job.  I also would like to thank Neil for the great production work he did.
